iIn the UK you would be shot for doing it that way!
The basic rule is ‘to remove as whole as reasonably practicable’ – even the best lawyer couldn’t defend this type of slapdash operation!

this is not a safe way to remove asbestos. i am an asbestos remover myself and if i were caught doing this i would face instant dismissal and possible prosecution

Most States and Provinces in the US and Canada have broken down the procedures into three diff categories. Type 1, Type 2 and Type 3 procedures. This video is following Type 1 procedures witch only requires personal protective clothing and resperatory equipment with NO containment of the work area. Type 2 & 3 methods require air tight containment prior to any removal as well as decontamination facilities.

SADLY, although this not the way to safely remove asbestos , the methods they are using to remove TRANSITE, are within the LEGAL boundries and government regulations in most Provinces in Canada. Safer methods and regulations are needed and enforced. it is however important to note that transite board is one of the LEAST friable materials used in construction thus making it “safer” to handle than other asbestos containing materials. This is what brought the “logic” around current regulatios

You can see that they dont even have a containment the way the light shines through. And they are not supposed to let it fall to the floor like that. Transite is usually pretty high and can usually come off in sheets so this is pretty bad

That is the way how job should not been done.

Transite isn’t a type of asbestos, it is a cement product that uses asbestos. It is non-friable and has relatively low levels of asbo. Usually, you would want to remove the transite in sheets. But, sometimes the screws are too corroded to remove. That leaves 2 options, cut the screws with a grinder and create tons of dust, or break the transite into pieces and create a moderate amount of dust. As long as you are in negative pressure containment, breaking transite is fine.

Is this how to remove asbestos?

How’d you know it was transite? I can’t tell…it certainly sounds brittle…but I don’t have a microscope.

Its amazing how many people here can tell it is asbestos by looking at it, and to think I have been using laboratories to sample all this time………….I should just employ you guys with your magic eyes !!

Yes regulations are being broken, but that is transit panels which is non-friable, fiber count very low if any.

Holy crap. I can’t even count the number of regulations that are being broken here.

Oh my dear god. Those panels look like asbestos insulating board. No enclosure, dry stripping and no controls in place. The should be shot.
