Years ago I removed asbestos sheets from a garage roof, having been told by Building Regs. people that the asbestos products were over 90% cement and the asbestos used was not the dangerous stuff, like they used in lagging pipes. Presumably my old gutters and soffits are the same as they were put up 40 yrs ago. I’m now very confused , it seems to be a case of double standards. Any help appreciated,thanks

I have lived in my house for forty years, before that it was a farm house. I have very large outbuidings with asbestos roofs, apart from the fact that they leak, they are covered in moss and look dreadful. Does anyone know if they can be professionally repaired and cleaned. The cost of replacing them has been estimated at £30k. I live in the UK.

Also, asbestos might also be found in the vinyl floor tiles in the basement.

Which is more hazardous to our health ?
Does one become more air bourne then the other?

My dad is thinking of buying an old house. In the basement, there is some sort of covering around the pipes that *might* contain asbestos. The real estate agent says the owners will be removing it. How long after this removal will it be safe to move in and live in this house?
Sorry, I should have clarified. A removal team will be coming in to do it.

We had a flooding problem and had to pull a very old carpet out. Underneath we found 9×9 tiles,probably containing asbestos.A few of the tiles broke in the process and also some tiles are cracked probably from tacking the carpet down.Currently we use the room for storage and my hudbands clothes,but eventually we like to use it for living again. What is the safest and most inexpensive way to deal with that floor. We will not take the tiles out.How big is the danger of Asbestos exposure right now?

the home inspector said the insulation is vermiculite, which may (or may not) have asbestos in it. He said it would be fine to just seal off the attic. Is that ok? Removal would cost about $10,000 but I don’t want to jeopardize our future health.
