the Freewinds, the church’s massive cruise ship and floating top secret training compound, has been sealed by Caribbean authorities. Its captain allegedly hid the presence of cancer-causing blue asbestos in the ventilation system, even as workers at a dry dock company refurbished the 40-year-old vessel.

It was built in Finland in 1968, then used as a ferry (La Boheme), then bought by DM after some very dodgy business including an unexplained ’suicide’ in 1987 and was relaunched in 1988 after a lot of very dusty renovation work. So given a time-lapse of 20 years, a lot of people ought to be currently very very worried. I don’t think the prospects of surviving mesothelioma are very good.

Can I borrow a space to note another bit of news that broke on 29 April: Jesse Remmers (39), Dutch serial killer, converted to Scientology in prison, and went on to help clear the planet by killing ‘countless’ SPs. Dutch CoS spokesperson Julia Rijnvis denies that Jesse was a Scientologist but then she would, wouldn’t she? Another epic fail.

Still digging around on the Web, I now found a site dedicated to M/S Boheme (1968), now Freewinds and all its holings, groundings, fires and other accidents down to 1986. I find it odd that she got a complete internal refit in 1983. Didn’t they know about asbestos then?
