there are different types of lung cancer caused by asbestos. mesolthilioma is one and is cancer of the lining around the lung. if asbestos caused his death u can get compensation. even tho it was in the 1950s he was exposed and he died in 2001 we got money from the industrial injuries board. no amount of money can make up for losing someone u love but at least it may help make yr mums life easier and he would be happy to know she is ok financially.

Sorry to hear about your loss.

Asbestos can cause cancer. Lung cancer can be caused by asbestos but also by other things. If your dad smoked then the chances of his contracting cancer through asbestos exposure would be greatly increased because smoking would have initially impaired his lung function.

The way they can tell if it was caused by asbestos is in the formation of the tumour, my mum died of this aged 70, 52 years after working in an office of CAPE BOARDS when she was 18 years old. This was being discussed recently as these companies bring in new ways to pay compensation.

Firstly I am so very sorry to hear of your Dads death.
As a nurse I have nursed a few that have had what is believed to be Asbestos related cancer.
There is much research that believes that Asbestos can indeed cause problems in the lungs and indeed cancer.
Many people are also claiming compensation owing to working in Asbestos related environments (in the past) as they now have asbestos related illnesses. Before the 80's it was not recognised the dangers of working with asbestos and at the time they had no protection from it. The deposits of asbestos would stick to their lungs and over time and years cause asbestos related illnesses.
I do not want to raise your hopes but you may be able to claim compensation if his death was owing to asbestos related illness.
mesothelioma( cannot spell it sorry) is also another chest related asbestos cancer.

Absolutely--the asbestos particles deposited in his lungs and caused cancer---get a good attorney.....it's just like the coal miners with lung cancer. Good luck to you and I'm sorry for your loss---and by the way---go to the hospitals -- all of the places your father had xrays of his chest within the last 10 years -especially if there were any BEFORE he started working there--and get all the records---once you get a lawyer and they contact the hospitals--the xrays will mysteriously disappear.

I'm very sorry for your loss. Asbestos is a substance which was widely used for various buildings and things. It was proved to be a major contributor to cancer of the lungs. If your fathers death certificate or postmortem report showed that asbestos could have been a factor in his death then try this website -
.

For more information try typing asbestos into a search engine it will tell you much more.

It's hard to determine exactly what would have caused your father's cancer, but the fact that he did work around Asbestos(I assume heavily), and that he had traces in his lungs is a very strong indicator that it was, at the least, a major contributor to his cancer.

Unfortunately, I did not know him, or his lifestyle, so there could be other factors, such as genetics and habits such as smoking, that caused this. My condolences.
