I am concerned that he didn’t do it right and we have two small children. What should I do? Other than consult a divorce lawyer. Please give sound advice.

Get the kids out the house ASAP. You need to protect their lungs as they will have the most long term effects. Next, open the windows if it’s possible and then once you have the proper face mask in place vacuum up the area in question and all of the areas next to it. Wash off all of the kids toys that may have been in the area and toss the ’stuffy’s’ into the wash machine on gentle cycle. (I put my girls into a pillowcase just in case of split seams) You will need to wipe down walls, ceilings and floors. If you can take a couple of days to do it in the better. You will need to stay at another house while you clean up. Also, Pack up all of your trash separate from your regular garbage as you will have to take it to the local sanitary station and declare the type of waste that you are disposing.
As to the divorce lawyer, let’s just say it’s probably cheaper to keep him and illegal to kill him.

Before you panic, consider this. Not all asbestos is linked to lung problems, and not all asbestos products result in free asbestos particles. If you want a scientific approach to the question, I would (safely) retrieve any tiles and get someone to help you research what is in them. Your KH husband might be able to tell you how he removed the tile (ripping up better than cutting, for example). Best case scenario: he ripped up chrysotile-containing tiles with the tiles intact. Very little health threat. Worst case scenario: he sawed apart amphibole-containing tile. The deadly dust could linger for weeks. This is a serious problem and requires major help by professionals.
