Video: Old Promotional Film For Asbestos

AsbestosCancer posted the video:

http://www.searchmesothelioma.net/ Both the government and corporate industry used promotional newsreel type films during the 1950s and 1960s to promote the application and widespread use of asbestos products. These films were instrumental to marketing asbestos and generating acceptance by the public. Since the early 1900s, asbestos was known to cause illness and disease in workers who handled the material. Even second-hand contact with asbestos can result in a cancer known as mesothelioma …

People knew that asbestos was harmful since the 40s, and the people making these videos were almost certainly aware that the safety of asbestos was in question.

It is the constant irritation of the fibers in the lungs that lead to cellular change – thus causing cancer and inhibition of the apoptosis pathway of type 1 and 2 pneumocytes.

I understand the video, but these people didn’t have any idea about the long term health effects of asbestos. THe editing of this video makes it seem like this was some type of deception to sell their product whilst they knew it was bad for the lungs. Just my take on it. Either way it’s nasty stuff. Just think about all the hormones and antibiotics in your milk! Who knows what will come about 30-40 years from now. antibiotic resistance and 10 year old girls with DD breasts… :(

Remember, if you dont disturb it, its harmless, im assuming your in the construction field… do you do many renovations? there are ways of avoiding it but if it needs to be removed professionally, then it should be, it should NEVER be attempted to be removed by the average man

man never work around that, on the bright side it usually takes frequent high exposures to get mesothelioma. I quit my last job (im an electrical apprentice) because my boss tried to get me to go in a house to rewire a kitchen and the walls were filled with vermiculite (a loosefill insulation that looks like little worms) it contains tremolite asbestos….where do you work? you have the right to refuse unsafe work… and if your boss is making u go into it he can get in a lot of shit

Most people have some asbestos in their lungs until about 15 years ago the average person breathed in around 20,000 fibres a day from ambient exposure

I work around asbestos from time to time and it scares the shit out of me. I’ve accepted the fact that I may already have it in my lungs.

I’d like to know if asbestos IS the rock or if it’s the fibers inside the rock.

And the irony is that the scientist you see in this video died of cancer.

People seem to think asbestos is a toxin, its better classed as a carcinogenic material. It invokes cancer, because its fibers are soo small and durable that when collected in the lungs it can cause cells to mutate, rather than to dye. If by chance a mutated cell has its automatic death code mutated – its cancer.

I do believe that the product that they are talking about here is “transite”. It really is very effective at it’s job and lasts forever. It isn’t friable and is extremely strong. Therefor, it poses no serious health risks. Now, magnesium carbonate/asbestos (AKA “mag”) is some bad shit.

koenie12345 – You could speed up the process. Just for an experiment, try inhaling or snorting a small handful, no more though for a proper test. This would be about the equivalent of about a year or two working in an industrial factory. This way it’s just very limited exposure for you and we can prove once and for all that asbestos cancer and mesothelioma are only conspiracy theories. Please keep us all informed on your test. You are very brave to take a stand on this issue. Thank you.

YouTube proplably doesnt exist anymore as the first signs start in about 10 years after getting in contact with it. Or you want to swallow so much that youll die on dust lungs.

koenie12345 – Try sprinkling some on your Lucky Charms or other favorite foods, or maybe wipe your butt with a thin sheet of asbestos fibers.

asbestos is a big joke… only working with it everyday would be dangerous. some exposure to it wouldnt hurt

my mum has OCD about asbestos. its right that its dangerous, but she takes everything too far. for example we had an asbestos pipe removed 6 years ago and everyday since then she has been crying and screaming about the house being contaminated (even though it was removed completely safely). ive never met any one who has this same problem. i need desperate help.

you are living up to your own name. James Hardie were not the only company manufacturing products with asbestos in it. There are still companies in many developing countries that use asbestos. There is no way James Hardie or any of these other companies knew asbestos was deadly when they first started using it. How can you be so nieve to blame James Hardie for this naturally occurring mineral.

You need to remove the interstitial comments–we all know asbestos is bad–the interest of this clip is how little they cared about health safety. Beating us over the head with that just lessens the impact of the video.

Also, “killer, terminal cancer”? I’ve heard of killer cancer, and I’ve heard of terminal cancer. But killer terminal cancer! Oh no!

probably those scientists are already dead. asbestos has icredible properties, but its fibers are a deadly shit. however, asbestos is still used in some products. ie, in the lab i worked some instruments are protected with it from excessive heat. but the boss didn’t protected us, so we sued him. LOL

I don’t think any company in 2008 should be using asbestos in any country,it is too harmful. There are vast numbers of people around the world that have died from this product, not just in Australia.I just think people need to know about James Hardies not so distant past, they only stopped making building products with asbesto in the early 80’s.I’m sure they still used it in brake pads up till a few years ago.

What I was trying to point out was James Hardie caused all these deaths and future deaths of innocent people and they now trade in the USA like they have done nothing wrong. They have paid out some compensation but it’s not enough.
