Why was my Uncle’s Death so rapid from diagnosis to death?

My Uncle died last Monday aged 75, after a short illness. He had been on dialysis and wonder if this could have accelerated his death? He had possible mesothelioma after potential asbestos exposure in his younger days. He developed a Chest infection before Christmas and they discovered cancer in cells from chest sputum thereafter…From cancer diagnosis to death it was a week! The post moretem was inconclusive and therefore we have to have an inquest

I work as a radiographer and i must admit when someone comes in for a scan and if they get diagnosed with cancer they die very suddenly. I am not sure if it is the radiation from the scanner that causes the sudden death. I believe someone should do research into this. Cos it is happening a lot.

Chances are that your uncle was fighting off massive infections in his chest and that, coupled with the cancer in his chest, was just too much for his body to handle.
I am so sorry for your loss. Please do not take this next bit as anything other than trying to help: I have known many cancer patients who have languished in absolute agony for months before death. Your uncle’s illness and subsequent death is a terrible thing, but you may find solace in the fact that he did not suffer quite so much as he might.

The diagnosis came to late. Probably from the all the other health issues he had and his age it went unnoticed. My Uncle recently went in for his gallbladder to be removed with NO other health issues or complaints. When they went to operate they stopped and reported to the family that they were terribly sorry but he had cancer throughout his abdomen. He died nine days later.

Dialysis and rapid death means your nucle may suffered fatal arrhythmia due to electrolyte imbalance such as hyperkalemia

I’m not quite sure why an autopsy (unless ordered by the family or physician) and then an inquest is needed in this case. There are obviously a few details that either you don’t know about or you don’t want to reveal at this time.
Unless there were cancer cells found in his kidneys during the autopsy, I highly doubt that dialysis would have ‘accelerated’ his death. The cancer was probably discovered when there was not much else that could be done treatment wise. As the previous posters have said, a massive infection or sepsis could be the culprit. Sorry for your loss.

My grandmother was dx with colon cancer, surgery, dead 6 weeks later. A lot depends on the stage that its in. Sooner found and treated better chance. There some that move quick.
